Affiliate Disclosure

Last updated October 2026

The short version: AffiliateForBuilders is written by a working carpenter. Some day we may earn a small commission when you buy a tool through a link on this site. It never costs you extra. It never decides what we recommend, and every affiliate link will be clearly marked.

Where things stand today

Right now this site has no affiliate links. We have not signed any affiliate deals and we are not being paid by any tool maker, store or brand. Everything you read here is written to help you do the job right.

We are telling you this up front because trust is the whole point of this site. If that changes, this page will be updated first, and the date at the top will change with it.

What an affiliate link is

An affiliate link is a special web address for a product at a store. If you click it and buy, the store pays us a small commission. The price you pay stays the same. Many sites you use every day work this way.

It is how a site like this can stay free while it keeps researching tools, checking codes and updating the guides.

Our rules, whenever links go live

  1. The job decides, not the commission. Every item on a gear list is there because the step needs it. A tool does not get on a list because it pays.
  2. Every affiliate link is labelled. You will see a clear tag next to it, like this: Affiliate link The link itself will also be marked as sponsored so search engines know.
  3. We say when not to buy. Our Must-have, Rent it and Nice-to-have tags exist so you can spend less. If renting or borrowing makes more sense, we will say so, even when there is no commission in it.
  4. Safety is not for sale. Safety gear and site safety advice follow the codes and CSA standards, never the commission rate. A safer, cheaper option will not be hidden because it pays less.
  5. No paid placement in disguise. If a brand pays us, sends us a product or sponsors a page, we will say so on that page in plain words.
  6. We say what we know. We only recommend what we have used or have researched properly, and we will tell you which. Where something is a trade-off, we will give you the downside too.
  7. We fix mistakes. If you find an error, tell us. We will correct it and note the change.

What this looks like on a page

Affiliate links will look something like this: a short label before the link, so you always know before you click. Affiliate link

Prices change and stock changes, so we do not show prices. Check the store for the current price and specs before you buy.

Other things worth knowing

  • Our guides are general information. They are not engineering or legal advice. Always follow your local building code, your provincial safety rules, the drawings and the maker’s manual.
  • Stores and programs have their own rules. When we join a program, any wording that program requires will be added to this page.
  • Canada and the United States. We follow the advertising and endorsement disclosure rules in both countries.

Questions

If something on the site looks like it is not following these rules, tell us. That is how we keep this honest.
